Absolute Essentials of Islam: Beliefs, Purity and Prayer

Duration: 16 weeks | Price: $40 a month (or $150 one-time payment)

Course Summary:

In this 16-week course, we will be reading the text Absolute Essentials of Islam line-by-line with simple explanations. Unlike our Why Islam is True course, this is a more traditional reading, where understanding the text is the means by which we gain knowledge.

The text and explanation will cover the following topics:

  • Īmān: Belief in the 6 foundational articles of faith

  • Islām/Fiqh: understanding the outward rulings of the religion (according to the school of Imam Abu Hanifa, may Allah be pleased with him)

    • Understanding what legal rulings (ahkām) are.

    • The rulings of the ritual bath (ghusl)

    • The rulings of the ritual ablution (wudū’)

    • The rulings of filth

    • The rulings of prayer (most significant portion of the course)

  • Ihsān: The path to salvation (spiritual and moral character)

The benefit: By taking this course, one learns the obligatory knowledge they need to assure soundness of faith and soundness of one’s most important action: prayer. We all spend time studying the things that we deem important, and we seek out knowledge from reliable sources. This is an easy way to do that.
